Unexpected Design in Washington

Exploring 6 of the state's most striking wineries

Unexpected Design in Washington While running around the globe looking for distinctive and uniquely designed wineries, I've been chastised for not sticking closer to home.

The plan always included a grand finale with a look at the most devastatingly beautiful wineries in California, so I took heed and looked locally, but perhaps not quite so obviously for dramatic winery buildings.

My gut told me to go north, and north I went, through the surprisingly modest wineries of Oregon (sorry, guys!) before finding some striking designs in Washington.

Unlike some previous area of focus, Washington State really has everything one needs to justify a little architectural extravagance. The wine industry is exploding there, the land is plentiful, and access and infrastructure for the eno-tourist is in place. All that's left? The wow factor!

Been to Novelty Hill-Januik Winery in Woodinville and tasted their wine. They are nowhere near the quality of wine from Chateau St Michelle winery. CSM and 14 Hands are at the top of my list.

We are planning a fall trip to Walla Walla--anyone have suggestions for do not miss wineries? Pinodiva will be out of her comfort zone but her palate will be open!

  • We are a winery in Cyprus producing some fine wines. Our number one seller is our rose which won recently in the International Wine Challenge UK a silver medal. How can we get Snooth to try our wines and give us some comments like it is done for other wines around the World. I have not seen Cyprus posted in your list.
