Cameron Hughes - Amazing Wines, Amazing Value

The classic model for wine sales includes not only the private domains, but also the often neglected negociant. Simply put a negociant buys wine to be resold under his or her label. The most famous example of this endeavor in the USA must be the famous two-buck Chuck, where wines from all over California are blended to produce irresistibly inexpensive wines of variable character.

While this is indeed the model for a negociant, the end result was based entirely on price rather than value. Enter Cameron Hughes, a negociant in the finest sense of the word. Cameron Hughes has recognized that there is always a market for well made, value priced wines and has cannily fulfilled this demand with exceptional wines.
By sourcing small lots of fine wines and selling them directly to the consumer, Cameron Hughes is able to deliver exceptional values. These lots are the bits and pieces that great wineries just can't find a use for. They may be leftover Merlot from a famous Meritage or superb Zinfandel that just won't fit into blending vessels during assemblage, when all the smaller barrels of wine are blended to make a final, consistent wine. While they each have different sources and stories one thing remains the same, the Cameron Hughes label.

You can trust the Cameron Hughes label to deliver excellent values. The bottling of limited, numbered lots ensures that you can always find something to fit your mood, whether it's something comforting and familiar or exotic and daring, there is a lot just for you.

We've managed to convince Cameron Hughes to offer you an exclusive Snooth Sampler pack at an outrageous price - consider it a gift and a perk of your Snooth membership. Not only will you be able to try great wines at a tremendous discount, but you will also have pre-release access to 2 spectacular new wines from Spain and a Zinfandel that will knock your socks off! These wines will be available to the general public before the end of the year but only Snooth members will be getting this sneak peak.

Our sample pack from Cameron Hughes includes 6 wines, starting with a crisp and gently spiced Chardonnay from Australia, the Lot 92 Margaret River Western Australia Chardonnay, that marries cool climate fruit and a suave, elegant feel with just the right notes of vanilla and spice to please the Chardonnay lover in each of us.

Furthering his international take on things Cameron Hughes is featuring a pair of Spanish wines in his next offering: a big, juicy, fruity 2007 Campo de Borja Lot 98, destined to be a crowd pleaser, and a fine austere 2004 Tempranillo, Lot 93 from Rioja with structure for aging and a powerful, gutsy personality that makes for compelling drinking even in its youth. Truth be told this wine was even better on day 2 and is just incredibly deep and sophisticated! Simply stunning stuff!

It's tough to find real value in California these days, though considering that this is Cameron Hughes home turf it's not surprising that these gems made it into the line-up.

The Lot 86 Zinfandel is sure to be one of Cameron Hughes most popular Zins ever. Produced from 80-year-old vines in Lodi, it is a stunning bottle, full of rich, chewy fruit with the depth and fine tannins that are the mark of great old vine Zin. Your pre-release access gives you a chance to try this before word gets out. Be ready to buy this by the case.

The Lot 72 Meritage from Napa Valley delivers just what one would expect from this Bordeaux influenced blend, the elegant feel of cool mountain fruit. Subtle and restrained with gentle spice and soil tones adding complexity to the soft plummy fruit, one would be happy to find this quality for twice the price.

My highlight of the tasting was the fantastic Lot 75 Oak Knoll Cabernet. Just classic, well-balanced cooler climate cabernet that shows great purity in a very nuanced style. This drinks well the first day but it really strutted it's stuff on day 2, blossoming with a gorgeous array of aromatics and showing the poise and balance that harkens back to the golden era of restrained yet complex Napa Cabs. At $25 a bottle this offers amazing value. Guess what, it's only $13! This is a wine to buy by the case and sock away in the cellar for a year or three. It's been a long time since my Euro-centric palate has found such a wonderful Cabernet to enjoy.

Kudos to Cameron Hughes! I know of no one else who brings these kinds of values to the consumer today. These are must try wines and just to get you even more motivated to step up to the plate we have the ultimate deal on this 6 bottle sampler pack. One bottle each of these 6 great wines for only $81.00! And the shipping is free! Wow. What more can we say? Try these wines, you won't regret it.

And as if that was not enough we've just got word that Cameron Hughes will be extending a special free shipping discount exclusively to Snooth members.
