Numanthia Numanthia 2008

This was the wine of the night for many. Big and powerful, it was described as “extracted with some tobacco nuance” and “dark as night - highly extracted but graphite and tobacco with chewy blackberries – GREAT!”

While certainly a wine that speaks more of potential today than immediate performance, it revealed enough of its promise to create a fair share of excitement, eliciting comments by more than one attendee that, “It is possible that the Numanthia might wind up to be better than the Termanthia.”

The pairing was a tough one, with the wine tending to overshadow the Spanish rice dish. The chunks of Chorizo in the dish did bring out “the depth of fruit and smokiness in the wine” and turned the pairing into a “highlight of the night” for several of the attendees.

This is a big wine. When pairing it with food, keep an eye out for big, bold flavors.
