  • C. C. Jentsch the Chase 2015

    Snoothrank:

The Chase, which is mostly Merlot, Cab Franc and Cab Sauvignon with some lesser varieties such as Petit Verdot thrown in, is a deep, dark wine of considerable density and extraction for the region. The nose has Kirsch, sweet plum, and raspberry - depending on sniff; entry is viscous, luscious and just off-dry, with almond, vanilla and cassis do... Read More

  • Chateau Carignan 2016

    Snoothrank:

The 2016 Carignan is another triumph. Here is further proof that the literati of the wine world know much about hype, little about real quality. Why? Best look to the virtues and limitations of capitalism. Anyway, this fine Merlot-based wine has dagger-like oak elements (well integrated) on the palate that bespeak of further aging possibility... • Port Cabernet Franc NV

    Snoothrank:

Potent dark ruby port that may have an oaken scent, but a super sweet almost cherry-like flavour. Despite being wet and sweet initially, there's just the right hint of dry and oak to finish to give it character. Although not a fan of oak nor dry, it's so subtle that I don't mind at all. At 20% ABV, best to sip it slow despite the yearning to... Read More
