British wine writer and critic, Jancis Robinson, once noted that throughout the 80’s and 90’s in the United States, Chardonnay took its varietal qualities to the next level and ‘virtually became a brand.’

Delicate. Malleable. Neutral. Reflecting on its terroir and its winemakers’ preferences, Chardonnay gained fame from its widespread success in the Burgundy and Champagne regions of France. If a painter stares at his blank white canvas with a thousand possibilities of expressing himself to society, winemakers do no differently with Chardonnay. Chardonnay on Snooth

  • Now drinking a Nielson by Byron Chardonnay (2015) and it is excellent - especially for the price - even if price is no option.  (Is it, I wonder?... maybe a philosophical discussion on the Moral Science is forthcoming at some point, but not now). Why?  It was on sale for about 18-19 dollars US which is good up here in the Great White North.  I ha... • Byron Vineyards Nielson By Byron Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay 2015

This old Santa Barbara winery produced a magnificent and delicious medium bodied Chard in 2015. The Stelvin (screwcap) closure helps preserve the freshness; the bouquet is showing development in the bottle with a hint of ginger and cinnamon on a bed of lightly cooked delicious apple. Entry is light with prudent levels of viscosity and a sprinkl... Read More

  • Domaine des Nugues Beaujolais-Villages Blanc 2017

I bought this bottle of wine from the website for ... Blanc is made of the chardonnay grape but is not common partly because some communes in Beaujolais have regulations restricting the proportion of white grapes allowed and partly because the Maconnais appellations overlap northern Beaujolais and many producers regard them as... • If you haven't had wines from Romania, you’re missing out. Big time!I ... the whites, Muscat Ottonel, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Aligoté, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Riesling Italico - (or Italian Riesling - called Welschriesling in Germany), and Viognier. Rosé wines seem to be very popular in Romania these days (like they are also popular here in ... I bought this bottle of wine for £12 from a shop on the Isle of Wight ... ... wines made of the gamay and chardonnay grape from 49 communes between the City of Lyon and the foothills of the Massif Central to the west.Franck Decrenisse is a small producer in this area. My bottle is a red wine made from 60 year old gamay vines. I started it last... Read More

Lovely and crisp for a chardonnay without trying so hard to add particular flavors that come off fake.I actually tried this at Sip 'n Paint (The Wine Cellar at the Rio in Las Vegas). Read More

  • One of my goals for 2019 was to read more of wine books. It's a resolution ... familiar with Cabernet and Chardonnay, but they were chosen because of their ability to resist tropical vine diseases and thrive in the warm, moist climate. Sababay Winery opened its doors (overlooking Saba Bay) in 2012, its website going live at 7 am on July 7th of... Read More

  • Domaine Drouhin Oregon Arthur 2015

Somewhat more spring water on the palate, with cake spice and vanilla - with a bit thinner backbone than the 2016 at this point (April 2019), but alive; with a sweet sugary vanilla nose, and spiritus flavour dominating entry. A fine wine - if you want spice, spring water purity. 91. Read More

  • One of the consistently great Califonia Chardonnays over the last almost three decades has been Navarro's Premier Reserve. This wine can still be had for about 20 dollars and since it's inception has been Burgundian in style with Navarro's "deep-end" touch. I would put this wine up against any price bottle but at $20 it blows away anything els...

  • I am looking for the "old style" Chardonnay. The kind most people don't like these days. Big, bold with creamy oaky long finish. Is there such a thing anymore? I really don't like stainless steel Chardonnay.
