Villa Pozzi Nero d'Avola Sicilia IGT 2008

Member Review by flavorofthevine:

First week this wine hit the shelf 10 cases were sold. I find it to be well blended, smooth and balanced with nice fruit notes. Acidity and tannin to be level. I highly recommend to my customers over and over and they come back for more.

First had this at a high end Italian eatery in KC, MO and was very impressed since it was one of their cheaper bottles on the wine list. Nice touch of oak, smooth tannins with a long finish. Very pleasing with any Italian food. Found it on sale at a local store for only $8.99. Drinks like it cost 2X that. Bulk buy if you like Italian reds.

Rose pedal nose, hints of strawberries. Taste is full bodied, long finish, semi-sweet, notes of pear and melon. Rustic Sicilian table wine with a touch of gentility.

A rich red grape, sometimes called Italy's Shiraz, Nero D'Avola is grown on the island of Sicily with great success. Villa Pozzi sources it's Nero D'Avola from vineyards in the hills on the western side of the island. Elevations of 1,000 to 1,300 feet and clay soils give these grapes the balance they need to mature fully without becoming overripe. The result is a full, succulent wine with rich fruit, spice and deep color. A tremendous value, enjoy this wine with all of your favorite Italian dishes.
